Safe to make an assassin yet?
Hey im new to the forums. Anyway, ive played guild wars for a while. well not a long time just many hours packed into 2 months. I have completed the game with a few characters, but i have yet to make an assassin only because i heard that it is VERY hard to find groups. I want to make one because im sick of tanking, using my ranger,my necro(well using ss is fun ), and ritualist is very fun but hard to decide between channeling or spirit spam because they have to make good elites other than ritual lord!. When will this assassin hate be over? will it?
edit: its either between this or a mesmer. Btw i mainly pve, and want to start abing.

nope the ignorence, combined with idiots that still try to tank with em - make it nearly imposible to get into missions.

If you are talking about PvE, then fear not friend, people are starting to come around. Hate, unforunately will always be around. Racisim is sad fact that it may never truly go away. People tend to pre-judge when they see what profession you are.
I have made it in Factions yesterday where a group was asking for a damager (Ranger, Elementalist, Assassin, SS). So people are starting to appreciate the great damage that an Assassin can deliver.
I'm not saying getting into groups will be easy, but it is becoming easier to get into groups than it was a month ago.
Have fun.

It always was "safe" to make a sin if you knew what you were dojng and made a name for you self, there are only a few great sins in this game, become one of them and you are set my friend.

I've still yet to see assassins being invited into any of the groups I'm in (pve), nor have I seen an end to the same assassins go "exp sin lfg mission!!!" for 20-30 min at a time....

5 character beat the game, MM, Tank, Fire Ele, Rt and Sin since the start of Faction. The order I give you here is how easy I got in a group. So, you see Sin is the hardest, but not impossible. I think more and more people start to appreciate what Sins can do. Also, more and more people know how to play a Sin better (such as not being a tank, etc.)
Just like Lambentviper said, you can do a lot of quests and missions with henchies. So starting a Sin now is not a bad idea. I actually had a lot of fun playing one.

Still very hard for an assassin to get into groups. I would recommend forming groups yourself so that you can guarantee yourself a spot.

I started my sin right when factions came out... I was frustrated with the PUG's not accepting sins, and went ahead and created a rit and went though the game... I since then have returned to my assassin to continue to work on him, because I knew it wasn't my fault I couldn't get into PUG's. My sin was left at the entrance to the mainland of cantha, where Sin hate is rampent, all of the noob sins made it off the first island, and got stuck trying to battle the afflicted.
Henchies it was...
Once I got past the first few missions, and over to the Temple, sin hate seemed distinctivly less rampent. I found alot of monks actually inviting me to their group, because they knew how bad sin hate was... so this is my story mind you, I was forced to hench through the first few mainland missions, and if things are the same as they were then, you probably will too. It's alot ezier then people realize, because of one simple stroke of 3 different keys(and that was a more complex way of making a very simple statment )
A secret keystroke for henchies!?! WHAT... YES! Control+Shift+Space! It calls a target WITHOUT you automatically attacking . This simple stroke of keys sends your henchies in FIRST, drawing all the aggro, and now, all you have to do is leap into the frey and start doing what the sin does best, systimatic elimination of crutial targets of a group
Once you have made it to the temple, I think people start to realize that you have to know what your doing to survive(unless you got ran, you cheap bastards!) because you wouldn't be that far if you didn't. I found life gets even ezier as you make your way into the jade sea and the echovald to find groups.
Mind you its still hard for a sin to get into the Deep and Urgoz's, because a sin's a hard class to play, and those are incredibly hard missions, but for the main story line, it seems as though sins are starting to get some credit, be it small, for what they do.
I hope that gives you some idea of what you might face playing a sin, but it does kinda make sense that an assassin is a hard group to be accepted(im sure they were never looked upon in the highest standards IRL) but there seems to be a growing trend, especially when you start getting to areas where people realize its not one player's fault a team failed(usually, case and point LEEEEROOOY JENKINS!) but that there was somthing that your group didn't prepare for... Good luck, and happy Sinning

I made an assassin, and looked out for the hate when getting into groups. I actually didn't see much hate as I expected (I saw lots of hate the first time thru with my Rt). Getting groups for explorable missions weren't too hard, because those seem to be fairly low-impact. Coop missions were slightly more difficult.
I had the most luck with PUG's that were starting. Most other groups stick with the healer/nuker/tank archetypes, so I wouldn't bother inviting myself to those. I even seemed to be welcomed into groups later on in the Luxon side of the campaign.
But after the Luxon/Kurzick campaigns merged, I saw so much assassin hate it made my eyes water and I started sniffling. I henched the rest of the game (Masters on final mission with 7 henchies!).
So don't worry about having to solo the final few missions as an assassin, I should probably write a guide to it. Here's Cliff's Notes without spoilers:
Bring Talon Silverwing and Danika when you are able.
Keep bosses in pbaoe range of all your henchies, corners are good.

Have they fixed the issue with crits on assassins? Until you can score decent critical hits on monsters much higher than you, I don't see how playing an assassin as anything but a caster is but a waste of time in PvE. As for hate, I'd say yes, it's down a bit now. I've seen a few groups in THK looking for a high damage assassin.

I think the hate will always be there. I havnt been around missions lately to see if the hate has changed. Fort Aspenwood always takes you. So nice.
When i was getting through the missions its all about presenting yourself.
Ub3r L33t Pwnage Assasin LFG Mission = bad no group
Assasin LFG Mission = 50/50
Recall / GPS Spike Assasin LFG Mission. Doesnt tank. Gets in Gets out. = score alot of groups. thats how my assassin did it

I Don't like PvE, 'cause I'm either forced to advertise "Assassin Swordsman LFG", and not get in any group in the first place, or just say "Assassin LFG", and piss a lot of people of once we start, lol.

Ctrl-Shift-Space works, but is a clumsy keystroke combo, and a bit hard to use against moving targets, for me anyway. So, for PvE, get yourself a longbow too, something like a no attrib longbow with 8-11 is just fine. Open fire with that, back up as the henchies get fully engaged. Switch back to daggers and attack the monks and other casters.
For high end PvE, 24+ monsters, critical strikes drops off enough that A/R Critical Barrage Archer will probably be more effective until ANet fixes that. Fix that Anet!
I have no problem getting into groups, follow Kyle's advice. Sound useful. Sound like you know what you are doing. When waiting, answer questions people ask, give them links to info sites, just be friendly.

In Tyria, got a groups to do the crystals desert missions. Sins hit so hards against the monk boss in Thisty River . Why all this hate when you know a Sins is like an another dose of Firepower and Spike.
But we still having the problem to get a group in Elona Reach with all these Mo/W around...
